This year’s Mnet Asian Music Awards has been rebranded to the MAMA Awards and also features a brand new trophy design.

He also introduced the new trophy design — a gilded cube dubbed the “Hyper Cube,” with its many facets and lines representing how K-pop has evolved in different ways over the past few decades.

CJ ENM producer Yoon Shin-hye explained that this year’s theme for the MAMA Awards is “K-Pop World Citizenship”, a celebration of how the world is trying to get out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2022 MAMA Awards will be held from November 29 to 30 at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan This year is the first event to be held after the rebranding, as well as the first to be held over two days since Mama’s first in 2009. The first day of the awards will be hosted by singer Jeon So-mi and the winners of the worldwide Fan Choice category will be announced. The next day, the main award ceremony hosted by actor Park Bo-gum will be titled “We Are K-Pop”.

The two-day event allows ample time for countless stage performances and collaborations. BTS’s J-Hope, who is the first member of the band to officially launch a solo career this year, will perform. Since its launch in 2009, the MAMA Awards have been held in Seoul, Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Japan. Kim, head of the music content division, added that the MAMA Awards is preparing to hold an offline event in the US within the next three years.

“What I would like to add is that discussions about which country Mama will live in are meaningless now,” he said. “The MAMA Awards has already become something that K-pop fans around the world enjoy online and offline.”
