CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The first Iowa Music Awards drew to Cedar Rapids from across the state to see and hear a variety of talent.

It was an opportunity for people in the music industry to connect with each other. Organizers said they wanted the event to recognize those who might not otherwise get it.

“I already feel that artists don’t get the appreciation they need. And that’s for music in general, but Iowa artists in particular don’t get the recognition they need and deserve,” said Antonio Chalmers, founder and CEO of T1 Entertainment. “The work, they work so hard, so you can just imagine the people who aren’t in front of the camera, who aren’t in the video, who are putting things together behind the scenes. Like a sound engineer or producer who doesn’t really have a name as much as an artist, and that’s why.

Chalmers helped organize and start the Iowa Music Awards. He said that there is a plan to hold an award show next year.
