After a gap of two years, Radio Kantipur hosted National Music Awards (NMW) 2078 at Hotel Yak & Yeti on Friday. Acclaimed singers Ram Krishna Dhakal, Yam Baral and Lochan Bhattarai inaugurated the awards with performances.
This year’s edition of the Music Awards had 75 nominations for 15 different award categories with the addition of a Lifetime Achievement Award covering all genres of music.
Winners of NMW 2078 are Ankit Amur Shrestha won the New Singer award for his song ‘Lazaira’, Anand Adhikari (Best Lyricist), for ‘Maya Jadau’, Arjun Pokhrel (Best Music Director) for ‘Timro Gharako Oripori’ , Pashupati Sharma (Best Music Director). Singer-Male-Folk), Mechu Dhimal (Best Singer-Female-Folk) for ‘Hajurail Ho’, Umesh Lamsal (Best National Song) for ‘Kohi Bananchan Mechi Mero’ , Ram Krishna Dhakal (Best Playback). Lifetime Achievement Award winner Kumar Basnet has researched, collected and featured various musical cultures across the country for seven decades and lent his voice to thousands of songs.
The awards ceremony also saw performances by Trishala Gurung, Subani Moktan, Samriddhi Rai, Pashupati Sharma, Dinesh Dhakal, Dharmendra Sewan and Abhaya Subba.
