Taylor Swift drops ‘Midnight’ album on October 21
As the clock struck 11pm on October 21st, rousing music and cheers could be heard inside and outside the commons. Almost a year after the release of ‘Red: Taylor’s Edition’, the Swifties celebrate 44 minutes of new music from singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift.
‘Midnights’ is an alternative-pop genre album based on Swift’s 13 sleepless nights throughout her career. Upon release, the album crashed Spotify. The album broke the record for the most streamed album in a single day on the app.
Recently, Swift has been releasing re-recordings and vaulting tracks from previous albums, so many fans speculated that Swift would continue this trend. When he made an announcement at the 2022 MTV Music Awards in August, LNo one anticipated getting new music from the artist.

“I’ve been a fan since 2013,” said sophomore finance major Matthew Vega. “I was a firm believer in 1989: Taylor’s version and anything to prove that grabs the next release. But it will happen eventually, okay for now.
Two years later, sister’s album ‘Folklore’ Four years after ‘Evermore’ dropped and Swift went on full tour, there was plenty of excitement ahead of the release of Swift’s new album.
The artiste also started a Tik-Tok series that fueled the fire of his fans: ‘Midnight Mayhem’. Swift spins a bingo machine and reveals the song title based on the corresponding track number that the ball rolled out.
The biggest drops of the series were track number four, ‘Snow on the Beach (featuring Lana Del Rey)’ and track number eleven, ‘Karma’.
On October 17, fans started speculating about track number three ‘Anti-Hero’. The artist announced that a music video for the song would drop at 8am on the same day as the album.
“I was really shocked when he said he was releasing new music,” said sophomore political science and finance major Caroline Quevedo. “I didn’t know what to expect and I was praying for a rock album or inspired vibes, but from everything so far it gives off a more tumblr, indie vibe.”
Even when fans thought they could sleep off the album’s release, at 3 a.m. EST Swift released seven more bonus songs for fans to enjoy as a deluxe edition of the album. The new version was titled ‘Midnights (3 AM Version)’.

‘Midnights’ is now available to listen on Spotify and Apple Music If fans prefer a physical copy, the album is also available on CD and vinyl.
