Cohos – Appeared in the historical Cohoes Music Hall November 5 Grammy-nominated artist, Tab Benoit. Benoit became a major blues star and an outspoken advocate for preserving his home state’s wetlands.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 17, 1967, Benoit grew up in the nearby oil and fishing town of Houma, where he still lives today.
He is a Grammy nominated singer, songwriter and guitarist who has built an extraordinary 30+ year career on the foundation of his proud and soulful Delta Swamp Blues. Benoit is considered one of the most impressive guitarists to emerge from the rich bayous of south Louisiana in recent years, and his guitar tone can be recognized before his Otis-Redding-ish voice resonates from the speakers. He doesn’t rely on any effects and his setup is simple. It consists of a guitar, chords and Category 5 amplifier. The effects you hear come from his fingers. He has earned a devoted legion of fans along the way, as well as five blues music awards, including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year (twice) and induction into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. He has recorded and/or performed with Jr. Wells, George Porter Jr., Dr. John, Willie Nelson and many others.
One thing about Tabb’s performances is that you can always see him on stage grinning from ear to ear. The man loves what he’s doing. He just can’t get enough of it.

Tabb’s accomplishments as a musician are matched only by his devotion to the environmental health of his native Louisiana wetlands. Benoit is the founder and driving force behind Voice of the Wetlands, an organization working to conserve coastal waters in his home state. In 2010, he received the Governor’s Award for Conservationist of the Year from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. Benoit also starred in the IMAX motion picture, Hurricane on the BayouA documentary on the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the call to protect and restore wetlands.
