Doja Cat has been nominated 14 times for the Billboard Music Awards, winning 4 | Biden News

Doja Cat didn’t mess up at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.

The “She’s So” singer won four of her 14 nominations at the awards ceremony: Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, Top R&B Album (for The planet is his), and Top Viral Song (for “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA). You can find the full list of Doja Cat nominations as well as the full list of 2022 winners here.

Doja Kat famously, and rather hilariously, nearly missed her acceptance speech at the 2022 Grammys while in the bathroom. The singer made sure it wouldn’t happen again, telling press on the red carpet before the show that she was “so excited not to use the bathroom tonight.” And the “Need to Know” singer made good on his promise.

“It’s an honor,” Doja Kat said in her acceptance speech for Top R&B Album. “I’ve always loved R&B. Growing up, that’s what made me grow up. I think there are a lot of talented R&B artists out there right now. You have Summer Walker. You have SZA. You have the weekend… I think everyone deserves this award. I really do.”

Doja Kat was the second most nominated artist at the show behind The Weeknd’s impressive 17 nominations. Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Olivia Rodrigo then followed Doja Kat with 13 nominations.

But how are these nominees selected?

According to Billboard itself, nominees and final winners are chosen “based on key interactions with music fans, as well as album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. Awards are based on a 12-month reporting period.

Doja Cat’s triumphant night came shortly after his tweet about dropping music and a subsequent apology. Safe to say, most of us are glad that Doja Cat hasn’t left the music industry. Here’s expecting many more award shows and music releases from the singer.
