The Southeast is well represented in this year’s pool of nominations for the Manitoba Country Music Awards.

Established names and events as well as newcomers to the scene received more than a dozen nominations in 22 categories.

Steinbach country musician Zarin Friesen earned two nominations for the upcoming awards, including Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year. Friesen was nominated for Roots Artist of the Year in 2021.

Nicole Buffy The Carillon Steinbach musician Jarin Friesen is up for two Manitoba Country Music Awards. Southeast artists and events earned 15 nominations in 22 categories.

Landmark-based country star Quinton Blair received four MCMA nominations, including Male Artist of the Year, Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the Year, Single of the Year and Fay Walker Song.

Fans will have their say in voting for their favorite artist including Neverville musician JR Charon. Charron is also in the running against Blair and Friesen for Roots Artist, Duo or Group of the Year and has a nod for Emerging Artist of the Year.

La Broquerie star Danielle Desorcy’s music video for her single “City Girl” is up for music video of the year. Desorcy won Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2021 MCMAs.

Golden West Broadcasting is represented at this year’s awards with Steinbach’s Country 107.7 nominated for Radio Station of the Year while its lead host, Dave Anthony, is up for Radio Personality of the Year.

Southeast events of the summer took three of the six nomination spots for festival or event of the year, including Grunthal’s Hanover Ag Fair, Neverville Old Time Country Fair and Steinbach’s Summer in the City Weekend.

The MCMA Awards will be held on November 5 at the Metropolitan Entertainment Center at Canada Inns in Winnipeg.
