I knew that even if I didn’t make it as an artist, maybe someone would cut my music. I’ve always felt that songwriting is the most important part of this whole industry.”

He thanked his parents and family, longtime manager TK Kimbrel and producer Harold Shade. “I wanted to play my music and wear clothes from my closet and then it didn’t work out that way…then they wanted to groom you and I was incomplete. Bless TK’s heart, he said, ‘I’m with you, Doug.’

Keith concluded by saying, “All I thought about was the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and BMI Icon.” The complete list of winners can be found on BMI’s official website.
