Previously a Netflix exclusive, the latest effort from the creators of Monument Valley is coming to more traditional platforms next year.

Earlier this year, Ustwo Games announced their next big title. The creators of Monument Valley and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure have unveiled a new turn-based tactical roguelike called Desta: The Memories Between. Days later, the game was revealed to be exclusive to Netflix Games, but that exclusivity window appears to have ended. Following its appearance at Wednesday’s Indie World presentation, the developers noted that Desta will also be coming to Nintendo Switch and PC.

First announced in June at Summer Game Fest 2022, Desta: The Memories Between follows the non-binary protagonist who wakes up in a strange realm with only an old ball from his childhood. Desta must use the ball to engage in tactical ball games with various characters to advance the story, helping them fill in the blanks of their memories and finally come to understand who they are.

Shortly after Desta: The Memories Between was revealed, the game was announced as a Netflix Games exclusive. It was released at the end of September on iOS and Android, but only playable for Netflix members. The game is set to receive big updates in the coming weeks, the first of which is Challenge Mode, which is expected to arrive over the next few days.

Ustwo notes that Desta is built for portable gaming, making it not only ideal for its current mobile platforms, but also for the hybrid Nintendo Switch. The upcoming Steam version may or may not be able to be experienced in the same way, as the developers have not yet confirmed Steam Deck compatibility. However, the team notes that the Steam version of Desta will support 4K resolution.

Desta: The Memories Between is coming to PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch in early 2023. More details are expected in the coming months.

Ozzie has been playing video games since he picked up his first NES controller at the age of 5. He has been in games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping push the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzles, shooters and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling story behind it. Because what are video games if you can’t enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
