Fatshark reveals official PC hardware requirements for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, with strong recommendations for optimal performance.

According to the latest official announcement by Fatshark, the developer of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the game will need some serious PC firepower to run at maximum settings, with the Nvidia RTX 4080 as the recommended GPU type. Featuring massive hordes of Chaos-mutated enemies and a full suite of ray tracing features at the ready, Darktide promises visually stunning gameplay, though it won’t come for free.

With the game prepped and ready to launch at the end of November, Fatshark is setting the stage by informing interested players about the technical side of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Specifically, this means taking a deep look at the type of hardware it needs to fully maximize it, but the developer still took things further by explaining why the game needs such powerful hardware in the first place.

Warhammer fans eager to serve the Imperium of Man in Darktide should be warned: Fatshark doesn’t seem to be pulling any punches this time around. Indeed, the developer’s latest performance-focused blog post makes it clear that the game is pushing the “quality and quantity of things” in most respects. Players looking for max Darktide with all the ray-traced bells and whistles you might find the game a bit difficult to run, as the developer recommends Nvidia’s cutting-edge RTX 4080 graphics card. At the same time, Fatshark warns that most computers will end up being CPU-limited in some situations – a problem that can be partially mitigated by using Nvidia’s DLSS 3 frame generation technology.

It’s a bit surreal to see the last generation RTX 3080 as the recommended GPU to run Darktide at 1080p, but Fatshark’s remarkably detailed blog explains that the studio isn’t pulling any visual punches here. In fact, DarktideThe unique mix of melee and gun combat against over a hundred enemies at once can be enough to push most regular PCs to their respective limits. Gamers without the latest and greatest GPUs need not despair, however, as Fatshark has promised a huge array of granular graphics settings to play with, allowing PC gamers to tweak its visuals as they see fit.

Good news for those without Nvidia RTX graphics cards is that the game will also support AMD’s FSR 2.0 upscaler. Although not quite as good as DLSS in most respects, this high-scaling solution can still do business with it, and its most important feature is that it does not require Nvidia’s own specific Tensor device to work. The old FSR 1.0 will also be available for even older GPUs, promising great scalability across the board.

One way to sidestep possible performance concerns would be to play Darktide on Xbox Game Pass, of course. Given the fact that the game is so heavy on PC hardware, and the fact that it’s not coming to last-gen Xbox One at all, it seems likely that Xbox players may have to run the game locked at 30 FPS.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide releases November 30, 2022, for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
