RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor, the world’s fastest mid-size pickup truck, is here. With intelligent technology driving next-generation, more reliable hardware, the Ranger Raptor combines raw power with mechanical and engineering precision in the ultimate Ranger that more than meets the expectations of off-road drivers across the region.
“The new Ranger Raptor has been designed to meet the needs of thrill-seekers who value power and off-road performance,” said Chris Noel, managing director, Ford Middle East. “For these enthusiasts, off-roading is not a hobby – it’s a lifestyle.”
The next-generation Ranger Raptor offers a host of new off-road features to meet the needs of these adventurers. Built to dominate the desert, this mid-size pickup raises the bar for off-road performance in its category.
That starts with the bold, athletic design of the new Raptor. With a wider stance and improved approach angles, drivers benefit from the Ranger Raptor’s best ride, handling and off-road capabilities to date.
The exciting power of the next-generation Ranger Raptor is provided by the twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, which produces up to 292 kW (392 hp) at 5,650 rpm and 583 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Tuned by Ford Performance, this engine and transmission deliver acceleration and power to meet the needs of even the most demanding off-roader.
The new engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with a race-specific Anti-Lag System available in Baja mode—the centerpiece of the next-generation Ranger Raptor’s full-featured lineup—to deliver improved acceleration out of corners.
“It’s faster than any mid-size pickup with acceleration that’s actually comparable to that of a sports car,” Noel explained.
The anti-delay system keeps the turbochargers spinning for three seconds after the driver lets off the gas pedal, allowing for quicker recovery from cornering or between gears when the driver returns to the gas pedal.
With each gear in the automatic transmission programmed with its own boost profile, the new Raptor engine delivers smooth acceleration on virtually any terrain – sand, gravel and dirt.
Any off-road ride requires a suspension system built to handle the biggest bumps, and the next-generation Ranger Raptor is no exception. Designed and tuned by Ford Performance, FOX’s 2.5-inch Live Valve Internal Bypass shocks feature advanced control technology that provides position-sensitive damping ability to respond and adapt to terrain and driving style 500 times per second. These shocks are the most advanced ever on a Ranger Raptor and are filled with Teflon oil that reduces friction by approximately 50 percent compared to those found on the previous Raptor.
While FOX hardware, tuning and development work was handled by Ford Performance using a combination of computer aided design (CAE) and field testing. Everything from adjusting the spring rates to adjusting the ground clearance, tuning the valves and honing the ride zones has been done to create the perfect balance between comfort, control, stability and grip on and off the road.
Speaking of balance, locking front and rear differentials give the next-generation Ranger Raptor extra traction on soft sand, allowing both wheels on a given axle to spin at the same speed. For added safety, electronically-assisted ABS brakes allow the Ranger to brake faster and for shorter distances.
Drivers can enjoy a choice of seven driving modes: Normal, Sport and Slippery for on-road, as well as Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Track and Baja for off-road with a simple twist of the steering wheel. These modes calibrate a wide range of systems, from traction to steering, to deliver the ultimate driving experience, whether you’re climbing dunes or hitting the highway.
Drive Mode isn’t the only thing drivers of the next-generation Ranger Raptor can easily switch between. The pickup also features a dual active-valve exhaust with four selectable sound profiles, from a quiet setting designed to keep the peace with the neighbors to Baja mode, an aggressive volume profile that lets you hear the laid-back roar of the Raptor’s off-road engine . .
The performance-oriented features of the next-generation Ranger Raptor also extend to the pickup’s interior. The jet fighter-style Performance seats offer extra comfort and support during intense journeys, while the driver and front passenger have 10 adjustment options to stay comfortable and secure even during the toughest journeys.
The Raptor’s customization options extend to the driver’s 12-inch dashboard screen, which is fully configurable to suit a variety of driving styles. Another useful screen is the 12.8-inch center display, which offers improved multi-camera visibility and better maneuverability in tight spaces with bird’s-eye view, 360-degree view, top-down view and rear trailer hitch view.
“As temperatures drop across the region, we’re entering off-road season,” says Noel. — Our distributor partners are seeing demand for the next-generation Ranger Raptor continue to grow, and it’s not hard to see why. Off-road is an unforgettable weekend getaway, and you can’t beat the Raptor’s performance on that front.”
The next-generation Ranger Raptor is now available from distributors in the Middle East.
