Paul Gallen has defended himself against allegations of illegal punching by Justin Hodges, who last month launched a lawsuit in a bid to overturn his massive loss.
The pair met in the ring back in September, with Gallen winning a controversial TKO despite Hodges claiming he was punched illegally while being pushed against the ropes.
Hodges was supported by Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech, who in his commentary at the time claimed he would win by disqualification if he ran.

“He was pushed over the ropes and hit. Is it against the law?” Fenech asked.
With Hodges appealing the decision, Gallen defended himself from criticism when speaking about the controversial incident. The General Assembly The ‘Face Off’ program.
The two fighters are speaking ahead of next week’s fight, which will give Hodges a chance to capitalize on any animosity generated from the feud in the ring.
First of all, Hodges maintained that he would never stop as Fenech suggested, even if it would give him victory.
“That’s not what I meant,” Hodges said.
“I don’t want to win like that. I’m sure Gal wouldn’t want to win. It happened. Honestly, I’m sick of talking about it but like Gal said I hit him too late but what a punch he got me. You can see my character.”
Gallen was quick to defend himself, saying that his kick was legal given the referee’s pre-fight instructions.

The former Cronulla Sharks captain also brought up the fact that Hodges hit him “late”, believing there was a double standard in not focusing on this incident.

GALLONS: “No one brought up the fact that you hit me late. Everyone wants to go back and bring up this issue. Let’s go back to what the referee told me.”
HODS: “I’m sorry after that. After that you did not ask for forgiveness.”
GALLONS: “I was shocked. You really shook me.”
HODS: “But what about that time, you didn’t apologize once.”
GALLONS: “We are there fighting each other. Before the fight, the referee said, ‘You throw punches whenever you want to punch. The only time you can’t throw a punch is when I call break or when I’m between you’. There is no holiday called there.”
HODS: “I’m in the ring.”
GALLONS: “So what?”
HODS: “I almost fell.”
GALLONS: “It’s not my fault. This is not my fault.”
HODS: “You shouldn’t judge someone who does this.
GALLONS: “Why?”
HODS: “I’m insecure. My hands are on the ground like this.”
GALLONS: “Mate, the referee told me before the fight, ‘You can throw punches whenever you want, as long as I don’t call a break, and as long as I’m not between you’. It’s not between us. I threw a punch.”
HODS: “It will definitely not be between us. How can I protect myself.”
It was far from the first time the pair had clashed in next week’s fight, as Gallen and Hodges also clashed over the rules of their fight.
