There wasn’t much progress made to Munguia and Coria’s fight, and you wouldn’t know it was happening unless you were watching closely.

It is unclear why Golden Boy chose Coria as Munguia’s opponent due to the backlog of opposition the 26-year-old former WBO middleweight champion has been facing since his promotion to 160 three years ago in 2019.

Munguia hopes to win next year’s fight against the IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin or the WBC Champ Jermall Charlobut it remains to be seen whether that will happen.

If Munguia gets a win against one of these guys, hopefully, he will be ready because his opposition has not prepared him to face any of these champions.

“I am happy to be in Guadalajara! We are ready to bring a show to the fans here. In boxing, there are no easy opponents, and Coria is no exception. We hope that once we overcome this problem, we will be able to big fight in 2023,” said Munguia during Thursday’s final press conference.

Argentina’s Coria has been with the best known fighters and they have lost every time. That probably explains why he was chosen to fight Munguia because he was no threat to beat him.

Coria’s best opposition:

  • Fiodor Czerkaszyn – UD 10 losses
  • Janibek Alimkhanuly – TKO 2 losses
  • Marcos Reyes – UD 12 – win
  • Francisco Emanuel Torres – UD 10 losses
  • Artur Akavov – UD 10 losses

“I’m happy to be able to show my skills against a great champion like Jaime. We’ve been training hard, and on Saturday, the fans are in a good mood,” said Coria.

If Coria were to beat Munguia, it would be a huge surprise and a real disappointment for Golden Boy Promotions as they have yet to get a chance to put him with a big name during his career.
