Andre Ward says he is “wary” of Errol Spence Jr vs. Terence Crawford fight can still be done after both to the stage against other opponents.
While negotiating with Spence, Crawford surprised everyone by signing to fight David Avanesyan on December 10th on the BLK Prime pay-per-view.
Many boxing fans were outraged by Crawford’s decision, saying that he had been standing firm for months because of his conversation with Avanesyan without Spence’s knowledge.
They argue that if Crawford had been upfront with Spence that he was talking to Avanesyan, he could have already prepared himself for the fight.
Instead, Spence could spend months negotiating with Crawford who could use him to set up a fight with the likes of Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Keith Thurman, or Eimantas Stanionis.
After what Spence just went through, it would be surprising if he doesn’t hate Crawford and is willing to revisit the conversation.
“I’m disappointed because I’m a fan of fighting, but I want what’s best for the fighter“said Andre Ward for Fighthype about Terence Crawford pulling out of Errol Spence Jr negotiations without warning to fight David Avanesyan on December 10th.
“What I am saying is selfishness, everyone is telling him [Crawford] for ‘Shut up and fight.’ But if you have never been in this area, you will not know that it is not that easy.
“I hear a lot of people. I don’t know if you call them fans. There’s a lot of nonsense online and on Instagram and Twitter and all that stuff. It’s hard to say that people are fans when they talk as rudely about other fighters as they do.
“I hear people say things like you know, Eddie Hearn. If you’re going to tell people this fight isn’t as big as you think, that’s saying something. Why do you try to change people’s minds? Let it go.” play, and we’ll see what the numbers say.
“I have also heard people saying that they are looking for money that is not there. Bro, no one knows what they are askingr, including myself. We are not privy to these recommendations. If you understand how boxing negotiations work, one party will provide the information they want. That’s how it is.
“It’s good for everyone to stay. It’s a good desire to fight, but all these interesting ideas and things, people don’t know. All I have to say is I want what’s best for the fighters, too I wish them [Crawford and Spence] he can work with it.
“I do not look at these family members without any difference. I know it’s a business, and it’s a difficult business to negotiate when there are millions of people. I hope so, bro. I have high hopes,” said Ward when asked if he believed a Crawford-Spence fight could happen.
“It’s boxing, so I know anything can happen, but I hope they can get him back after this next fight,” Ward said.
