Ashley Gorley was named Songwriter of the Year for the ninth time as ASCAP Country Music Awards winners were announced on social media Monday morning, ahead of a party and red carpet later in the day in Nashville.

Gorley’s name being announced for the top honor at ASCAP’s annual accolade seems almost a foregone conclusion. (He is pictured accepting at the 2018 ceremony above.) Warner Chappell was named Music Publisher of the Year, as it did again in 2022.

There is more suspense over what will be named country song of the year by the performing arts organization. For 2022, that honor goes to “Famous Friends,” co-written by ASCAP member Corey Crowder, a stunner by the duo of Chris Young and Ken Brown.

Gorley’s repeated honors don’t necessarily have to do with rolled-over good will, but what he’s done for the music business recently. Gorley’s No Rest on Fame list has the most played hits of all time, including nine chart-toppers: “Bears on Me” (recorded by Dierks Bentley, Breland & Hardy), “Country Again” (Thomas) Raitt ), “Give Heaven Some Hell” (Hardy), “New Truck” (Dylan Scott), “Sand in My Boots” (Morgan Wallen), “Slow Down Summer” (Thomas Rhett), “Steal My Love” (Dan) + Shaw), “Take My Name” (Parmali) and “You’ll Probably Leave” (Chris Stapleton).

In addition to winning Song of the Year, Crowder was clearly a strong contender for Gorley’s top songwriter honor, as ASCAP points out that he collaborated on eight No. 1 country hits during this period.

The same goes for Warner Chappell, celebrated for being one of the publishers of “By Dirt” (recorded by Luke Bryan and Jordan Davis), “Cold Bear Calling My Name” (Luke Combs and Jameson Rogers), “Getting Over Him” (Lauren Alaina), “Lil Bit” (Florida Georgia Line & Nelly), “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” (Ashley McBride & Carly Pearce) and “You Should Probably Leave” (Stapleton).

A complete list of the year’s most played songs can be found at www.ascap.com/countryawards22.

Winners are also being celebrated on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #ASCAPAwards.

Although this is the third year in a row that ASCAP has bypassed the in-person ceremony and done most of the celebration in person, an invitation-only party for the winners and their guests will be held tonight at Nashville’s Soho House, preceded by a red carpet
