The Native American Music Awards announced that Rodney A. Grant will be the host emcee for the 20th Annual Native American Music Awards on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Seneca Niagara Hotel and Casino in Niagara Falls. Grant will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as an actor in the motion picture industry.
This will be the fourth time Grant has hosted the Native American Music Awards and his first in the Northeast after coming out of a 15-year retirement. Grant is a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska. She has had an outstanding career in film, motion pictures and television, including a memorable role as Wind in His Hair in the 1990 film “Dances with Wolves” opposite Kevin Costner. He also starred in “Ghosts of Mars,” “Wild Wild West,” “Geronimo: An American Legend,” “War Party” and “Powwow Highway.” Grant played the famous warrior Crazy Horse in the 1991 television movie “Son of the Morning Star” and was Chingachgook in the syndicated television series “Hawkeye.”
Grant will induct artist and event performer Mickey Freek into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame. Other featured performers include multiple nominees Antoine Edwards Jr., Cody Blackbird, Earl Slick and the Fabulous Ripcords, Fawn Wood, Gunner Jules, Spur Poirier, Stan Jody and The Hallucy Nation.
