LAB secured their place in the history of the awards, picking up the same four tweens for the second year running.

Country singer-songwriter Tami Neilson won three awards for her album Kingmaker – her 6th Te Kaipuro Tuwahenua Toa Best Country Artist, Te Kaipuro Takitahi Toa Best Solo Artist, and Massey University Te Kaivakaputa Toa Best Producer.

Nielsen’s Best Producer nod makes her the first solo female to win the award since Beek Runga in 2006.

Rob Ruha was recognized as Best Soul/RnB Artist for his album Te Kaipuro Away Toa. Save the scenery.

Under his mentorship, Te Tairauhiti Tira Waita Ka Hao Te Mangai Paho Te Kaipuro Māori Toa received Best Maori Artist and Te Mangai Paho Mana Reo Tui. Ka Hao: One tira, one voice and 35 (ft. Rob Ruha) respectively.

Tauranga-based artist and first-time nominee Georgia Lines scoops Tui for her sophomore EP for Te Kaituhura Pooro Toa O Te Tau Breakthrough Artist of the Year Human.

For the fourth year running, Kaipuro Orotini Toa at BENEE took home Best Pop Artist.

Other winners included Te Kaipuro Rakapioi Toa Best Rock Artist for Waipu-based metal band Alien Weaponry, Vera Ellen Te Kaipuro Monohi Toa | Leaping Tiger first-time nominee for Best Alternative Artist, Te Kaipuro Tahiko Toa for the critically acclaimed It’s Your Birthday | Best Electronic Artist, and Robert Ashworth and Sarah Watkins for Te Kaipuro Inamata Toa | Best Classical Artists for their album Moonstone – a collection of works by New Zealand composers.

Two-time 2022 Pacific Music Award winner Diggy Dupay, Choisvone and P. Smith won the Tūī for Best Hip Hop Artist Te Kaipuoro Hipihope Toa for The Panthers OST.

Te Toa Hoko Tetei took home the top selling artist for the fourth year running along with Ricotta Marakerake and Te Tau at Six60. Radio airplay marks their single’s record sixth time of the year Someone be close.

Announcing the Artisan Award winners

Along with the major award finalists, Hapori Puro’s behind-the-scenes heroes were also announced.

While Neilson won best producer, Te Kaipukaha Toa for best engineer went to Tui Simon Gooding for his contribution to Tami’s album.

LA-based Chelsea Jade Metcalf won the Best Album Artwork award for Te Toi Atata Pukemi Toa for her album Soft Spot.

Joel Kefali and Ella Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde) were recognized with Best Music Video Content on NZ On Air Te Kiko Pooro Atata Toa for Lorde’s music video. Secrets From A Girl (Who Has Seen It All).

Recorded Music New Zealand Kaiwahakahera o Ngā Tohu Puoro o Aotearoa Sarah Owen said this year’s awards were a testament to the passion and commitment shown by the local music scene.

“It’s an honor to see such talented artists being recognized for their art – a wide range of recorded work with originality and artistry, showing the depth and breadth of talent in Aotearoa,” Owen said.
